I Sing
I sing in the mountains
and on the prairie of wild
desire. I sing from the coffins
and in the legislation bottleneck.
I sing in a universe of malevolent
intensity. I sing like a bandit among
tortured sheep. I sing to defy the
clocks and rescue an angel.
I sing among the barricaded so as
to point the way toward fences
with wings. I sing to a unicorn
confronting the sadness of desire.
I sing to a prisoner rescued by mad
dreams. I sing for us all and for no
one and for the soft tabernacle
of despair and I sing because I am
free and the hawk that dives for the
worm and misses can yet rise again.
