Two Trees
Shaped by the hands
of an invisible sculptor
they inhabit this breath of land,
standing apart
parallel with light and dark
music modulates
through their leaves,
individual notes
that entrance
an audience of sun and stars;
when silence comes
there is a future to dream of,
secret and wild
as roots touch beneath
the infinite cupola of a torn heaven.
Killarney Revisited
We followed the thread of names
which remained fluent
on the speech of maps,
Killorglin, Dingle, Valencia,
Rossbeigh, Cahirciveen, Puck,
all textured under a fervid sky
where blushing leaves bled
within spheres on fire
with Atlantic sun.
Strands of language
emerged from the unlocked earth,
screamed like saline birds
their tastes rising then settling again
on the plangent
tongue of this inveterate scene.
