Showers of milk-white hail,
cold as a corpse and pale
as the bare ash branch.

Turf shed emptying
its summer load:
diminishing avalanche
of coal-black sods,
hard as nails.

Burn sweet orange,
black stone turf
and dry white logs.
Return to the ashes pail.
