Slippers slap and slide so soft against the cold tile floor,
Like a ghost as silent as the night she floats inside my door,
She hunches by my bed, whispers through my ear and stirs me to my core.
The willow outside weeps and whines and struggles with the cold,
The world is stuck in time, frozen still, grasping what was told,
In a field nearby, layered in ice, a lonely lifeless foal.
In a hospital bed I sit now,
This Christmas far from home.
